Human Engineering and Risk Management Research Group

The research activities of this group cover two main areas. One relates to health hazards in work environments, and the other involves occupational accidents. We are currently conducting health studies relating to dust, harmful gases, noise, sound (including low frequency), vibration and low back-pain; as well as safety studies relating to human-errors or organizational-errors that result in workplace accidents. In addition, we have been evaluating the safety and health performances of local exhaust systems including push-pull ventilation, respiratory protective equipment, earplugs, and so on. Other new techniques such as the prediction of gas diffusion by numerical analysis and safety surveillance are also investigated.

Sound attenuation tests for ear plugs.

Vertical whole-body vibrator.

Excavator simulator being used for safety training.

Experiments for falling backwards.

Preventive effects of a standing posture aid on reducing low back and leg loading.
